Bamboo Symposium
The Bamboo Symposium which was held on the 11th & 12th August 2011 at the East London International Convention Centre was a great success bringing together interested parties from around the country and abroad. Emphasis was on how to unlock the potential of bamboo in South Africa, coupled with its potential for job creation.
Various presentations were by active members within the fledgling industry, at its conclusion it was resolved that a Steering Committee (SC) should be established to facilitate and coordinate activities that are geared towards developing a strategy, establishing an industry body, developing and submitting a proposal for the inclusion of bamboo industry in the next version of the Industrial Policy Action Plan. The steering committee is made up of volunteers who were also participants in the Bamboo Symposium.
